China Steel Corporation (CSC) Chairman Chien-Chih Hwang stated today (June 19) that the steel market will face increasing pressure in 2025, with the third quarter being particularly challenging due to seasonal factors and ongoing tariff issues. He hopes for a potential turnaround in the fourth quarter.

Hwang noted that July 9th is a key date regarding US tariff deferments, with resolution depending on US negotiations. The World Steel Association's October report on 2026 steel demand will also be a vital market indicator.

Regarding rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle Eastern region, Hwang commented that predicting the outcome is difficult. However, he foresees a high probability of oil price increases, which would consequently drive up natural gas prices and overall commodity costs. CSC will continue to monitor the situation.
