AM/NS India launches new continuous galvanizing line for automotive sector

ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India), a joint venture between ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel, has commissioned a new continuous galvanizing line (CGL) at its Hazira, Gujarat plant. This positions the company as India's only facility able to produce advanced high-strength steel (AHSS) with strength levels of up to 1180 MPa, which is important for safety, durability, and sustainability for automobiles.

The new CGL, with a 2-million-ton production capacity, will produce galvanized and galvannealed coated flat steels, including licensed products from its parent companies. These specialized steels offer high formability, recyclability, and lightweighting for fuel efficiency, key to India's upcoming Corporate Average Fuel Efficiency (CAFE) Phase III norms in April 2027.

This indigenous production will substitute imports of high-grade specialized steel for auto manufacturers, supporting India's self-reliance goals. CEO Dilip Oommen said the line will provide "best-in-class products" matching global standards.
