China's high carbon ferrochrome prices increase after holidays

13 Feb 2025 13:31 reported by Claude Tseng

As chromium ore prices continued to rise after the Chinese New Year holidays, the production costs of high-carbon ferrochrome also climbed higher, and the retail price of high carbon ferrochrome also increased accordingly.

Due to the small transaction volume in the retail market, the increase in the retail price of high carbon ferrochrome had limited help for the losses of enterprises. Producers that mainly rely on long-term supply contracts suffered relatively serious losses.

At present, the purchasing prices of high carbon ferrochrome of TISCO and Tsingshan Group kept flat in February. As a result, chrome ore and ferrochrome manufacturers were more willing to maintain prices after the holiday.

The factories suffered losses and the slow demand might force stainless steel mills to reduce the purchase of raw materials. There is a risk that high carbon ferrochrome retail prices might decrease in March.
