South Korea's POSCO Holdings has teamed up with Australia's Anson Resources to build a lithium extraction demonstration plant in Green River, Utah, with construction set to begin in 2026. The project will utilize POSXO's advanced direct lithium extraction (DLE) technology, which enables efficient processing of North America's low-grade brine resources.

Under the agreement, Anson will supply lithium brine resources, while POSCO will handle plant construction. A successful demonstration could pave the way for POSCO's broader lithium expansion in North America.

POSCO has been actively developing its lithium business since 2018, when it acquired Argentina's Hombre Muerto salt flat for $280 million. The company later established a lithium hydroxide plant there with an annual capacity of 25,000 tons.
