According to Clarkson’s statistics, this year the global LNG new ship orders totaled 62 ships. Among them, there were 53 ships contracted by South Korean ship companies, which was nearly 5 times of last year. The rest 9 ships were contracted by China, Japan and Singaporean shipyards.

LNG ship orders increased significantly to meet the policy in 2020 of increasing nature gas usage. The shipbuilding technology of South Korean ship companies were highly competitive, and their share was about 86% of global LNG ship orders.

Since 2012 till now, South Korea has ranked second in the world of ship builder, followed after China.
