It is reported that Indonesia annually wire imports were about 850,000 tons, however, the country’s annual wire production output target was 2.2 million tons, the current capacity utilization is only 32%.

A few days ago, Indonesia's Steel Industry Association (IISIA) Managing Director, Hidayat said, in fact, Indonesia wire rod industry has a ability to supply the national demand of 1.3 million tons a year, but imports of wire rod prices are much lower than domestic prices, resulting in a market is flooded with imports wire.

Hidayat believes that government has to take measures on imports of wire. Indonesia’s Ministry of Trade has passed on the trade regulations, in order to reduce the amount of import steel products to make full use of domestic sources.
