After a series of meetings between representatives of the Mexican steel industry and the federal government between May 16 and 21, the Mexican federal government promised to close the Mexican border to all steel imports from Vietnam, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

A representative of the National Chamber of the Iron and Steel Industry (CANACERO by its Spanish abbreviation) revealed that the Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard, promised to remove 100% of Vietnamese steel mills from the Automatic Import Notice System because they found that most of them do not exist or are fraudulent.

In addition, they will also inspect all mills in Malaysia and Indonesia because they detected the triangulation of Chinese steel to Mexico from these two countries.
