United States Steel Corporation (U.S. Steel) reported its net earnings were US$183 million, or US$0.72 per diluted share, in the second quarter of this year, compared to net earnings of US$477 million, or $1.89 per diluted share, in the same quarter in 2023.

During the period, the adjusted net earnings were US$211 million, or $0.84 per diluted share, compared to US$483 million, or $1.92 per diluted share, in the second quarter of last year. The adjusted EBITDA was US$443 million.

President and CEO, David B. Burritt, said that the company’s North American Flat-Rolled segment performed better than expected, mainly driven by enhancements in product mix and cost management.

U.S. Steel expected its EBITDA for the third quarter to range from US$275 to 325 million as the company’s business is continuously impacted by recent pricing dynamics.
