It’s reported that Thailand’s government, who control the tinplate plate prices has recently approved the local steel mills to raise the tinplate prices by THB5, 000/ton for domestic market in response to the request from local makers.

In fact, Siam Tinplate Co. (STP) and Thai Tinplate Manufacturing Co. (TTP) ever sent their request to the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand to ask for permission to raise the domestic tinplate prices by THB10,000/ton.

As tinplate manufacturers only received the permission to raise the prices by THB5, 000/ton, it’s said that they might lobby on the price hike for tinplate prices as they’ve faced the pressure from imported products.

In the background, Thailand demands 600 thousand tons of tinplate annually. The market share of imported materials has increase to 200 thousand ton from 100 thousand tons.

Furthermore, the imported products from China, South Korea and Taiwan have been increasing recently.
