Recently, Rio Tinto, one of the world's largest metals and mining company, signed a contract worth about AUD 400 million with Mondium, an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) company from Australia. Mondium would plan and establish Rio Tinto's Western Turner Syncline Phase 2 (WTS2) project in the Pilbara region in Western Australia, including the construction of processing plants, land transport equipment, and infrastructure.

In November 2019, Rio Tinto was approved to invest US$749 million in the construction of the Greater Tom Price mining area in the Pilbara region to develop the mining of existing and new deposits.

The WTS2 project was Rio Tinto's second phase of developing this mine. The construction of this project was expected to begin in the first quarter of 2020 and be completed in 2021.
