The national union of mining and metallurgical workers in Mexico initiated a strike at an ArcelorMittal plant in Michoacan following unsuccessful negotiations over profit-sharing. The union alleged that the Luxembourg-based company has refused to distribute 10% of profits from the 2021 fiscal year among its 3,500 direct employees at the plant.

ArcelorMittal contended that payments were made on time and asserted that the demanded sums exceeded legal limits. Despite offering a one-time bonus equivalent to six months' salary, workers still rejected the proposal.

ArcelorMittal expressed regret over the strike's impact on the national production chain and the economy, given the significance of the steel industry. The company manufactures wire rods, construction rods, auto parts, and energy sector products.
