Algoma Steel, an integrated steel producer based in Canada, has started some layoffs to lower costs and cope with the uncertainties brought about by US’ 25% steel tariffs.

The United Steelworkers (USW) Local 2724’s president said that approximately 20 employees were laid off, effective last Friday. Moreover, due to the current uncertain market, more layoffs might be seen in the future. The president said he is now waiting to see what steps governments at all levels will take to mitigate the impact of the tariffs.
