thyssenkrupp Steel Europe has begun trial rolling of the first slabs on its new continuous casting line 4 at the Duisburg site, which was the completion of an EUR 800 million revamp over two years.

The upgrade includes a modernized hot strip mill 4 with two new walking-beam furnaces and fully automated slab logistics. These high-tech facilities raise annual casting and rolling capacity to over 3 million tons, improve precision, surface quality, and production efficiency, and enable steel grades for electric mobility, the energy sector, and lightweight construction.

The project is one of the most modern production networks in Europe, aimed at strengthening competitiveness, output consistency, and supply security.
