British Steel announced that it has signed two multi-million pound rail supply contracts with Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI), which will supply RFI with 86,000 tons of rails, including 68,000 tons of standard grade rails and 18,000 tons of high quality heat treated SF350 rails.

British Steel's Scunthorpe plant will be responsible for the production of 18,000 tons of non-pressure heat treated steel rails, while other steel mills will produce 68,000 tons of standard grade rails.

In September, British Steel announced that the UK's main rail network owner and railway infrastructure company Network Rail have extended the contract for another two years with British Steel.

In October of this year, Belgian railway infrastructure company Infrabel also renewed a four-year railway network agreement with British Steel, and each signed agreement was subject to a strict tendering process.
