Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto announced an ambitious plan to eliminate all coal-fired power plants within the next 15 years, advancing the country’s original 2056 target.

This initiative highlights Indonesia’s commitment to addressing global climate change and ensuring sustainable energy development.

Speaking at the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, President Subianto emphasized the importance of global cooperation in achieving a green energy transition. He expressed optimism about Indonesia reaching net-zero emissions by 2050, a decade earlier than its previous pledge of 2060.

As part of this plan, Indonesia aims to build over 75 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity to replace coal-based power generation.

The proposed facilities will leverage solar, wind, and hydropower, underscoring Indonesia’s leadership in green energy development within the region and its dedication to the global climate agenda.
