EU’s steel exports show growth in Jan-Jul y-o-y

EU steel exports grew by 6% in the second quarter of 2024, building on a slight 1% rise in the first quarter, as reported in the Economic and Steel Market Outlook 2024-2025 by EUROFER. Increases across finished, flat, and long steel products contributed to the rise, with exports up 4%, 6%, and 1%, respectively.

Between January and July 2024, total exports climbed 6%, driven by a strong 7% increase in finished products, flat products rose 8%, and long products rose 6%. Flat products comprised 65% of finished exports.

Top destinations for EU steel exports were the UK, US, Turkey, Switzerland, China, and Egypt, with the first five accounting for 56% of exports. The UAE saw a 91% surge in imports, while exports to Ukraine dropped 14%. Year-over-year, EU exports to the US, China, Norway, the UK, and Turkey increased, while exports to Switzerland and Egypt declined.
