Taiwan's Fair Trade Commission approved the joint operation of Indonesia's PT Walsin Everising Specialty Steel Indonesia (WESSI) by Walsin Lihwa, Walsin Singapore Pte. Ltd. (Walsin SG), and Hong Kong company Mimosa International Limited (Mimosa) on July 2 and determined that the combination would help improve overall economic benefits and international competitiveness and would not be prohibited.

The case arose from Walsin Lihwa's capital increase in WESSI through its Singapore subsidiary in November last year, and jointly controlled its operations and personnel decisions with Mimosa. 

According to the plan, WESSI's new plant in Indonesia will be completed in the second quarter of 2026 and is expected to be put into production in the first half of 2027.

The Fair Trade Commission stated that Walsin Lihwa and WESSI are producers of stainless steel wire rods, with horizontal competition and vertical links in raw material supply. Since WESSI is a newly established company, it currently has no production capacity, and its business focuses on the Southeast Asian and South Asian markets, so it does not have a substantial impact on Taiwan's market structure.

After the merger, Walsin Lihwa still faces domestic and foreign competition, and can use this to expand its overseas layout and strengthen its global competitiveness. The Fair Trade Commission believes that this case does not have a restrictive competition effect.
