It is reported that Italian Riva Group’s ILVA plant is facing possible shutdown due to pollution charges.

According a study by local judges, 386 deaths among the local populations to ILVA’s fumes in 13 years, the majority were living in two neighborhoods very close to the plant.

ILVA, a major employer has 15,000 to 20,000 workers in the region, is one of biggest steel plants in Europe with output 8.5 million tons in 2011, this number means around 30% of total Italian output.

Prime Minister Mario Monti’s government urges local politicians and officials to find ways of resolving pollution issues while keeping jobs as Italy slips ever further into an economic recession. The investigation is expected to close by end of July.
