Germany's GMH Gruppe and France-based power company Engie reached a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the supply of renewable energy with Guarantees of Origin (GoOs).

The renewable power will be 100% used in the inductive single-bar tempering plant (EVA) at the Georgsmarienhütte site.

The electricity will be supplied by two sites in Germany, a wind farm that no longer receives subsidies under the German Renewable Energy Sources Act and a new solar farm.

The approach of using the EVA and switching from natural gas to green electricity in the heat treatment of steel could save more than 10,000 tons of CO2 emissions over the next decade.

GMH Gruppe has set a goal of reducing CO2 emissions to almost zero by 2039 and a goal to halve greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 compared with 2019 levels.
