On Thursday of last week, the USA's USTR trade representative, Katherine Tai, and her Mexican counterpart the Economy Secretary had a private meeting that is part of the third High-Level Economic Dialogue between both countries.

During the meeting, the US minister again expressed the US government's concern about the increase in Mexican exports of steel and aluminum products to the United States and the lack of transparency in their origin.

In a statement after the meeting, both sides recognized the importance of improving steel and aluminum trade monitoring efforts and instructed their teams to work to restore Mexico's export monitoring regime.
