Taiwan's pig iron imports in Apr hit new low this year

21 May 2025 14:53 reported by Joy Liu

A A A
Taiwan's imports of pig iron, equivalent to premium scrap steel, fell to around 26,000 tons in April, the lowest volume since January and a 65% decrease from the peak in March of nearly 74,000 tons.

Taiwan’s pig iron imports came mainly from various international sources, including, for the first time this year, imports from South Africa, as well as Brazil and China. The sharp decrease in April followed a fluctuating import trend this year, with a surge in March after lower volumes in January and February.

In the first months of this year, Taiwan imported a total of around 177,900 tons of pig iron.
