US scrap exports rise by 17.3% in May m-o-m

According to statistics, US scrap exports totaled 1.24 million tons in May, rising by 17.3% compared to the previous month but dropping by 19% from the same month a year ago. Turkey was the top destination, importing about 356,600 tons of scrap from the US, followed by Bangladesh at 260,300 tons and India at 105,000 tons.

Meanwhile, US scrap imports in May reached approximately 247,000 tons, a month-on-month decrease of 32%. Despite the monthly drop, imports were up by 7.2% year on year from May 2024. Imports from Canada rose by 8.3% month on month, while those from Mexico fell by 34% compared to the preceding month.
