Kuwait's Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy announced temporary power cuts in certain parts of the country, lasting up to two hours per day. The ministry cited the inability of power plants to meet the surging electricity demand driven by extreme summer heat and the widespread use of air conditioning.

Kuwait, one of the world's hottest desert countries and a major OPEC oil producer, has seen temperatures reach nearly 50°C this week. Kuwaiti officials attribute the power cuts to the impact of climate change, which has led to hotter and longer summer peaks.

To address the shortfall, Kuwait has signed short-term contracts to import 500 megawatts of electricity from Oman and Qatar. However, experts warn that the country needs to invest in diversifying its energy infrastructure beyond oil and gas, towards renewable sources like nuclear, solar and wind power.
