The US government completed a 60-day consultation period with the congress on August 13th. As the members of South Korean congress worried that any tariffs under Section 232 could stop the approval of revised Free Trade Agreements (FTA).

However, South Korean Trade Minister said South Korea was not the main target of the proposed US tariffs on foreign vehicles. The other manufacturing countries, such as Mexico, Canada, Japan and the European Union, would be also effected.

Moreover, the minister said that South Korea has made a big concessions in the automotive sector of the revised FTA to relief from the US' auto tariffs.
