It was reported that British GFG Alliance said on January 16th that it will look for further acquisitions in the US to expand its market in the Midwest and East Coast. The firm planned to improve the steel capacity at its Keystone Consolidated Industries, Inc. (KCI) and resume a furnace at its Liberty Steel Georgetown plant in South Carolina.

The executive chairman Gupta said that he believed it will be rising demand to buy American-made rather than imported steel and they would like to serve such demand.

The KCI plant has been bought last December for US$320 million. GFG is planning to lift up its annual steel production to 1.1 million tons from 800,000 tons. It will also set up a natural gas power plant to reduce carbon emissions and energy costs and raising its steel production.

Also, the restarting second furnace at Liberty Steel Georgetown will hike the capacity to 500,000 tons a year. Liberty Steel USA targeted to have annual capacity of 5 million tons.
