Mesabi Metallics’ mining and pellet plant project, located on the Mesabi Range in Minnesota, is dedicated to revitalizing the former Butler mining area. The 7 million tons per annum taconite mining and DR grade pellet project was scheduled for completion in early 2026.

So far, more than US$1.7 billion has been invested, and it was planned to invest another US$550 million to complete the mine and pellet plant.

The project was expected to create up to 600 union construction jobs, more than 350 permanent steelworker jobs, and 700 indirect jobs, helping to grow the local economy and tax base.

Mesabi Metallics produces high-quality, low-energy, low-slag DR-grade iron ore pellets. The raw materials are processed from high-quality magnetite. The initial mine life is 15 years and has expansion potential of the resource base.

The company's goal is to provide high-quality US iron ore pellets and support customers' carbon reduction goals.
