UK’s TRA starts Tariff Rate Quota review on steel imports

The UK’s Trade Remedies Authority (TRA) has started a Tariff Rate Quota (TRQ) review on steel products imported into the UK from more than 120 developing countries, which are currently subject to the UK steel safeguard trade remedy measure.

The TRA received a request to review exceptions on rebar in developing countries, and it is also considering reviewing these exceptions for other categories of steel. The current quotas were set last July.

The TRA will assess whether to need to amend the exceptions for imports from developing countries based on the updated import data and will consider imports from all developing countries, including those excluded from the measure.

After the review, the TRA will submit its recommendations to the Secretary of State for International Trade, who will make the final determination and decide whether tariff rate quota revisions are required.
