Since COVID-19 impacted car sales seriously, Volkswagen Group decided to abandon the establishment of a new factory in Turkey.

Volkswagen Group originally planned to build a new plant near İzmir on the west coast of Turkey at the end of this year. It will launch the production of new generation vehicles in 2022 with maximum annual capacity of 300,000 vehicles.

Under current circumstances, the building of the new plant will only increase worse overcapacity of the automotive industry.
