ROGESA Roheisengesellschaft Saar GmbH, a pig iron producer in Dillingen, Germany, commissioned Paul Wurth, the subsidiary of SMS Group, to carry out a comprehensive modernization of blast furnace No. 4 (BF4) in order to extend the service life of the blast furnace and ensure effective monitoring of the hearth lining.

It was understood that this BF4 was built in 1970 and expanded and relined by Paul Wurth in 2003. The last reline on BF4 was made in 2016. This renovation project was expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2025, with only 55 days of downtime. Based on the contract, SMS group would provide the necessary technical support for the planning, delivery, and installation of Paul Wurth furnace linings and multi thermocouple sensor probes (MTPs).
