U.S. Steel and Nippon Steel are committed to completing the acquisition of U.S. Steel by Nippon Steel in the second half of 2024. Both companies have pledged that U.S. Steel will continue to operate and manufacture steel in the US.

Nippon Steel will invest an additional US$1.4 billion, on top of a previous US$1 billion commitment, for facilities covered by the Basic Labor Agreement (BLA), totaling US$2.4 billion in capital expenditures.

This investment aims to enhance U.S. Steel's operations and strengthen the U.S. steel industry. Despite recent declines in U.S. Steel's net profit, the companies assure that no US plants will close and no jobs will be lost due to the acquisition.
