Liberty Steel seeks court adjournment as 1,450 jobs hang in balance

Liberty Steel is fighting to prevent the closure of its facilities in the Rotherham and Sheffield areas. The company faces a critical court hearing on Wednesday that could shut down its specialty steel operations due to outstanding debts, potentially eliminating 1,450 positions.

Liberty is seeking a court adjournment to avoid this outcome and has stated its dedication to preserving the specialty steel division.

It was understood from government sources that there are no plans to intervene financially to help Liberty Steel or its affiliated companies settle their debts, unless the company is forced into bankruptcy by the courts.
