LIBERTY Dunaújváros has taken a significant step in its decarbonization efforts by signing a contract with China's CISDI for a comprehensive feasibility study on installing a state-of-the-art electric arc furnace (EAF).

This contract is crucial for LIBERTY Dunaújváros's green steel transformation, encompassing the EAF installation and upgrades to the secondary metallurgy and hot strip mill. These enhancements allow the company to produce high-value automotive products in Hungary.

The feasibility study will involve experts from Hungary, Europe, China, and LIBERTY, defining the EAF's requirements, integration with existing systems, raw material supply, and environmental impact. Following a detailed technical scoping by Swiss engineering firm NPT, the new EAF, with a capacity of over 1.5 million tons per annum, will use CISDI's patented technologies, which can reduce CO2 emissions by 80%.
