Italian court released a 124-page explanation this Monday to clarify its earlier ruling regarding ILVA plant in Taranto, Italy.

ILVA’s managers had argued that the original court ruling on August 7th would allow it to continue its operations while upgrades were carried out.

However, according to the explanation, the court ordered the plant to take immediate steps to rectify systems which allowed high emissions of dioxins and other noxious chemicals. But the ruling opened a way to resumption of production once the necessary steps had been taken to repair the environmental damage.

ILVA’s CEO Bruno Ferrante said it was a reasonable and common sense course of action, which allows the plant not be closed permanently.

He pledged to step up investment in technological improvements and pollution reduction could cost around €146 million.
