Indonesia's total coal production estimation for 2024 was more than 710 million tons. according to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) data.

The output has already reached 613 million tons as of September. The 2024 target would be easy to reach based on the current production path, which might be up to an annualized production of 817 million tons this year.

The reason for this high coal output is the growing domestic consumption and stable export demand. In recent years, Indonesia has relied on coal to have a stable supply of electricity.

According to data from Global Energy Monitor, Indonesia put into operation 28.5 gigawatts (GW) of coal-fired power generation capacity between 2015 and 2023, significantly faster than the 16.4 GW added from 2000 to 2014.

ESDM's coal production forecast and actual output data are increasing year by year.

Among the 2024 plan of a total of 710 million tons output, the supply to the Indonesian domestic market is expected to reach at least 181.3 million tons.
