Japan’s ferrous scrap exports increase by 20% in H1 2025

According to Japan's customs statistics, Japan's ferrous scrap exports amounted to around 561,000 tons in June, falling by 7% compared to the same month a year ago.

In the first half of this year, exports rose by 20% year on year to 3.8 million tons. Among them, shipments to Vietnam grew by 35% year on year to 1.68 million tons, followed by Bangladesh and South Korea, with imports of around 646,000 tons and 622,000 tons, surging by 207% and falling by 26% year on year, respectively.

Exports to Taiwan, meanwhile, slightly dropped by 35.5% year on year to about 238,000 tons.
