Hydro had a groundbreaking ceremony this week to start the construction of its new aluminum recycling plant in Cassopolis, Michigan, with an expected investment of US$150 million.

The new plant will have an annual production capacity of recycled aluminum of 120,000 tons. The production was scheduled to begin in 2023, bringing around 70 jobs.

After the plant is operating in full production, approximately 120,000 tons of low-carbon aluminum extrusion ingot will be produced annually.

Hydro said the new recycling plant was built in line with the surging demand for aluminum used in the automotive industry.
