EU targets for US trade agreement completion before Aug deadline

With the US delaying its tariff deadline to August 1, the EU is pushing hard to negotiate a balanced trade agreement. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen told lawmakers the bloc remains committed to talks but is preparing for all outcomes.

The brief extension offers a crucial chance to avoid disruptive tariffs. An EU spokesperson confirmed ongoing talks with member states, stressing that even a provisional deal could stabilize trade relations. Time is tight, but Brussels hopes to finalize terms before the new deadline.
