Taiwan’s China Steel Corporation (CSC) reported that the group's shipments in May totaled 876,000 tons, falling short of its 897,000-ton target by 21,000 tons, and decreasing by 40,000 tons from April's 916,000 tons, mainly due to Dragon Steel's blast furnace maintenance, adjustments in billet sales, and fewer export vessel calls.

CSC itself shipped 703,000 tons, exceeding its goal by 32,000 tons, while Dragon Steel shipped 173,000 tons, less than its target by 53,000 tons.

The group’s domestic shipments were slightly below target due to client caution amid US tariff uncertainties and a strong New Taiwan dollar. Export shipments were also down due to fewer scheduled vessels.

CSC said that recent US tariff hikes to 50% on steel and aluminum, coupled with currency strength, are impacting downstream clients' export orders. The company is closely monitoring market uncertainties, including China's steel production policies and global trade barriers.
