As a result of China's aluminum scrap import restrictions, China's aluminum scrap import volume in August failed to show an increase compared with previous months, while it was higher than the average import volume in previous years.

China's imports of scrap aluminum rose 7% in August from a year earlier, according to customs data. Experts said the main reason was that scrap aluminum was cheap overseas.

Another supportive condition was that this month's quota was flat, whereas practitioners had expected it to fall.

It was this fear, experts said, that had led practitioners to jump at the chance to make big purchases before quotas were cut.

The quota system was a point-to-point import and export restriction adopted by Beijing in response to environmental protection measures based on domestic environmental conditions.
