The Indonesian government will impose 2% tariffs on nickel pig iron and ferronickel from 2022, and the duty rates might increase with nickel prices hike.

However, Septian Hario Seto, Indonesia's Deputy of Investment and Mining Coordination to the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investments, said that the government didn’t rule out the possibility to impose export tariffs on nickel matte, while this plan is still being evaluated.

Besides, Rizal Kasli, Chairman of the Indonesian Mining Experts Association, also suggested that the imposition of export tariffs shouldn’t be based on product types. Matte nickel should be subject to export tariffs as well because matte nickel is also made of saprolite nickel.
