In order to give the local industry more time to implement its adjustment plans and complete efficiency measures, the Philippine Tariff Commission (TC) has imposed safeguard duty of P7700/ ton (around US$170/ tons) and reduction year to year on imported steel angle bars since 2009 and Philippine decided to extend this safeguard duty by another 4 years long in July.

In order to help Taiwan's angle bar mills could win for the export business opportunity, Taiwan's official has negotiated with Philippine TC several times and finally Philippine has decided to put Taiwan into the list of exemptions which means Taiwan's export steel angle bars to Philippine will not be collected for safeguard duty.

At the same time, it is said China's steel angle bars have not been put into the exemption list.
