Taiwan’s southern port of Kaohsiung saw a 2.5 percent drop in container loading quantity in 2005. This is the first decline in loading and unloading quantity in this port for 14 years. The slower steel market has resulted in the drop. It is expected that the fall could continue with the opening of three new deep water docks in the Xiamen port in August this year. It is expected that some shipping companies would use these docks more. (Jan. 5)
