It is reportedly that the Mexican steelmaker Ternium is to install the first plant with the technology of electric furnaces and direct reduction to supply low carbon emissions steel to the automotive industry.

Máximo Vedoya, CEO of Ternium, said that the plant is located in the steel complex in Pesquería, Nuevo León, and will be the first in the world to use electric furnace and direct reduction technology, since this technology had never been used before.

The Pesquería complex is one of the most modern industrial complexes in the world. It began operations in 2013 and has the capacity to produce 4.4 million tons of steel per year after some expansions.
