Peabody Energy, a leading global pure-play coal company based in the US, has successfully shipped its first batch of coal products from its Centurion Mine in Bowen Basin, Queensland. This shipment has been delivered to the Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal and exported to an Asian customer.

The high-quality hard coking coal from the Centurion Mine is pivotal for producing steel, applied in the construction of infrastructure and renewable energy projects such as wind turbines. The coal has properties like high coke strength and low impurities, which are critical for efficient steel production and support the decarbonization of the steelmaking process.

The Centurion Mine has a reserve of around 140 million tons and an annual production capacity of 4.7 million tons, with a mine life of more than 25 years.

Besides, Peabody Energy also planned to build a 5MW power station project at the mine, supporting its decarbonization goal.
