It was reported that the US Department of Justice filed an antitrust lawsuit last Wednesday (September 4) to stop Novelis Inc.’s acquisition of Aleris Corporation in order to ensure the competitive fairness of automotive aluminum sheets in the North American market.

According to the merger agreement, Novelis will aim 60% of the total domestic production capacity, further raising prices, which will decrease innovation and service quality, thereby injuring automaker and US consumers’ interests ultimately.
