The data from Thailand's customs showed that Thailand imported around 2.17 million tons of thermal coal in January, a year-on-year increase of 35.81% and a month-on-month increase of 67.57%.

In January, Thailand import around 900,000 tons of bituminous coal, rising significantly by 74.45% year-on-year. Among them, the imports from Australia accounted for the largest proportion, followed by Indonesia.

In addition, the imports of anthracite were mainly from Vietnam with around 20,000 tons.

According to data from the Energy Policy and Planning Office of Thailand, in 2018 total coal consumption was around 38.3 million tons, of which coal consumption in Thailand was approximately 22.86 million tons, accounting for 59.7% of the total consumption.
