The Italian-Argentinian steelmaker Ternium expected to finish its new slab steel mill built in Nuevo Leon state, Mexico by mid-2026.

The annual capacity for this new slab mill will be around 2.6 million tons. The company expected this project will keep its leading position in low-emission steelmaking in the USMCA region. It is the biggest expansion project in the company’s history.

The company also reported that the costs for the new facility have increased to US$3.5 billion on the appreciation of currency against the US dollar, higher than the initial investment of US$3.2 billion.

Ternium has reported that it has installed its first finishing line of 550,000 tons and the rest of its production lines.
