SSAB AB planned to input US$100 million to renovate its steel mill in Mobile, Alabama, mainly to expand production capacity of high-strength steel such as quenched and tempered steel, which was expected to increase by 130,000 tons.

The project was scheduled to be carried out in 2019-2021, and the mainframe included rolling, molding, casting sand, coating, transportation and other related facility, and also setting up new cooling system to simplify alloy production process.

SSAB Americas mentioned that renovate project will help meet demand in North American market, while increasing production and optimizing quality, improving operational efficiency and reducing raw material costs.

It was understood that in past few years, through collaborate with Alabama government and local institutions, this mill in Mobile has experienced several updates and expansions with great success. At this stage, SSAB took such advantages and further enhanced to further optimize its production line.
