India's Shyam Metalics and Energy Ltd. (SMEL) has launched a new blast furnace and sinter plant at its Jamuria facility, an investment of Rs. 600 crore aimed at boosting steel production capacity. The plant's output has increased from 0.45 million tons per annum (MTPA) to 0.77 MTPA, featuring three top-fired stoves, modern dry gas cleaning, and coal dust injection systems capable of handling up to 550 cubic meters for efficient steelmaking.

In line with energy efficiency goals, SMEL has installed an 18 MW Top Gas Pressure Recovery Turbine, enhancing energy recovery by 10%, and an advanced cooling system that cuts water and electricity consumption by 20%. The facility is designed to maximize sustainability by allowing zero process water discharge.

Additionally, a new 1.11 MTPA sinter plant will convert iron ore fines into blast furnace feed, reducing costs. This expansion reinforces SMEL's commitment to sustainable and efficient steel production in India.
