According to the report, Rio Tinto produced and shipped about 338 million tons of iron ore from Pilbara during 2018. It hit its iron ore production output target and up by 2% compared with 2017.

Rio Tinto was an Anglo-Australian multinational as well as one of the largest metals and mining corporations in the world with operations in six continents but focused on both Australia and Canada.

Rio said it strengthened its asset portfolio and invested more on high quality sectors during 2018. By the end of 2018, Rio Tinto had succeed in AutoHaul, the first automated heavy-haul, long distance rail network in the world, now shipped autonomously over 1.6 million kilometers.

For 2019, Rio set the goal at 338 to 350 million tons from its primary mining hub in Western Australia.
